AWAVEAWAKE founder/creator Jaclyn Hodes studied sculpture, art history and writing at Sarah Lawrence College. The Sorbonne’s film studies program brought her to Paris during her final year of college, where she fell into the glittering world of French fashion, assisting stylists on editorials and a season’s worth of fashion shows. Upon returning to New York, she continued to apply her creative visions through styling, working closely with some of the most influential minds in fashion. Her work has been featured in a variety of progressive fashion magazines, including Dazed & Confused, Dossier, Hobo, i-D, Lula, and Nylon. In addition, she worked as fashion editor for TheBlowUp and Vice. She was invited to FIT’s Fashion & Textiles graduate program in 2002, where she had the opportunity to gain mastery working in the museum’s world-renowned garment collection and at the MET’s Costume Institute, researching the design and structure of Edwardian-era dress and other ethnographic garments. She was particularly drawn to the free silhouettes of the late 1960s and 70s, and the effects of a burgeoning psychedelic culture and its influence on clothing.
